The best wine experience: Wine bars in Marbella to enjoy a unique glass

For fellow oenophilia’s, we’ve listed some of the best wine bars in Marbella to add to your must-visit list. For those unfamiliar with the term “oenophilia,” it comes from the Greek words for "wine" (oinos) and "love" (-philia). Broadly speaking, it simply means really enjoying a good glass of wine. Whether you call yourself a wine lover, aficionado, or connoisseur, you probably appreciate wines from certain regions, grape types, or production methods, and never miss an opportunity to peruse the wine list!

Vinacoteca Castillejos

Level 1: Starting off strong with some simple wine tasting, in an intimate space with a generous selection.

Located in Marbella’s charming Old Town, Vinacoteca Castillejos is a small yet delightful spot offering over 400 carefully selected wines from both Spain and around the globe. Whether you’re in the mood to learn about new varieties during one of their tasting sessions or simply enjoy a glass or two paired with a serving of chilled tapas, its inviting and authentic atmosphere will have you feeling immersed in the culture by the first half glass. They also offer a range of spirits for those with a taste for something a little different.

D-Wine

Level 4: A serious wine destination for those who love an overwhelming selection.

Located just west of Marbella towards Puerto Banus, D-Wine has built a reputation as one of the Costa del Sol’s most respected wine destinations. Combining an elegant restaurant with a specialised wine boutique, the venue houses thousands of bottles from Spain’s leading regions alongside carefully selected international labels. Fine Wine magazine awarded them the coveted title of “World’s Best Wine List” in 2019 - regarded as the sommelier’s version of Michelin stars, the "World’s Best Wine Lists" awards is the most rigorous and prestigious wine list accolade in the industry.

The atmosphere is refined yet welcoming, perfect for either a relaxed glass at the bar or a full evening of food and wine pairings. Mediterranean dishes and creative tapas complement the impressive cellar, while knowledgeable staff help guide guests through the selection. With one of the most extensive wine selections in Marbella, D-Wine offers endless opportunities to discover a new favourite flavour with every visit.

Level 3: Becoming fully immersed in Spanish culture, popular with the locals and with two venues to try side by side.

These locally renowned hot spots for wine tasting can be found tucked away in Marbella’s Old Town, almost equidistant from Parque La Alameda and La Plaza de los Naranjos. La Taberna Casa Curro and La Tienda Casa Curro is one establishment divided into two spaces, sat across from one another on the same street. La Taberna is the perfect small city walk-in, consisting of high tables for groups of between 4 and up to 12 people, and a small bar for two. It’s cosy but ideal for those impromptu drinks.

Hotel Puente Romano

Next Level: Exceeding expectations with some of the most exquisite wines and fine dining the region has to offer.

The Puente Romano Beach Resort is setting its sights on becoming a major name in the world of wine. This luxury Marbella hotel has created a centralised wine cellar headed by the resort's sommelier, Alejandro Marcos.

The cellar caters to the over 20 restaurants within the complex, holding over a thousand carefully selected bottles, including some of the most sought-after wines and rare collector’s items that are not even available for purchase. Though access to this wine cellar is exclusively reserved for hotel guests, there is a space designated for group wine-tastings.

However, to experience many of these wines you could simply choose any one of the top-tier restaurants within Puente Romano, and have your selections paired with some of the best food this part of Spain has to offer.
