Remote and hybrid work are reshaping where professionals live. Discover why Marbella offers a stable and well-connected European base.

Without the need to live close to traditional office centres, remote workers are presented with a privileged decision, and Spain made that choice easy.
In recent years we have seen a gradual uptick of remote workers based in Marbella. More professionals are no longer tied to a single office location, and their companies operate across borders, their teams are distributed, and hybrid or fully remote working has become part of standard practice across Europe.

Across the European Union, around 22 % of employed people worked from home at least part of the time in 2023, according to Eurostat’s latest data on employed persons working from home by professional status.
In Spain, official remote working statistics from the INE show that teleworking (remote working) remains a stable feature of the labour market, with detailed breakdowns by demographic and work type.
UK figures from the Office for National Statistics show that hybrid working remains embedded in working patterns, with more than a quarter of workers in hybrid arrangements in early 2025.

Alongside broader European shifts in working patterns, Spain introduced a clear legal pathway for remote professionals in 2023: The Digital Nomad Visa. Under its Startup Law, this visa allows non-EU nationals who work remotely for companies based outside of Spain to reside in the country.
The visa formalises what had already begun organically. Professionals were separating where they earn from where they live, and Spain positioned itself to accommodate that structure.
For EU citizens, freedom of movement already makes relocation straightforward. For non-EU nationals, the Digital Nomad Visa created certainty and clarity. The result is not a wave of transient nomads, but a steady integration of internationally mobile professionals into established markets such as Marbella.

Marbella averages around 320 days of sunshine each year, with winter daytime temperatures typically between 17 and 19°C. Southern Spain remains one of the sunniest regions in Europe, with Marbella especially appealing due to its unique microclimate, thanks to the protection of the Sierra Blanca mountain range which frames its backdrop.
Though of course, relocation decisions depend not only on how a place makes you feel, but how practical it is to live and work there. Spain consistently performs strongly in international healthcare and life expectancy rankings. On the Costa del Sol, both public and private medical services are well established. Digital infrastructure is equally reliable. High-speed fibre networks are widely available across Marbella, supporting the practical demands of hybrid and fully remote work. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport just 45 minutes from Marbella, continues to provide extensive European connectivity, allowing professionals to remain closely linked to major business centres while enjoying a high quality of life on the Mediterranean coast.
For many professionals with genuine geographic flexibility, that makes it not just a lifestyle choice, but a considered one.
