Nueva Andalucía, luxury living and golf in Marbella
Nueva Andalucía, by far the largest urbanization in Marbella, measuring several square kilometres in size, was the brainchild of José Banús Masdeu, who came to Marbella in 1962 and acquired the land, including what is today Puerto Banús, and immediately applied for planning permissions.

What area does Nueva Andalucía cover?
The origins: visionary development by José Banús
The construction of Puerto Banús started in 1965 and was inaugurated in 1968 and, in this period of time, the main infrastructure of Nueva Andalucía was installed, all at once rather than in phases, which was to cost Mr. Banús dearly before the end of the decade.
Banús’ legacy and the success of Puerto Banús.
Banús came from a family of builders and had achieved great success in building low-income properties in Madrid and other cities in Spain. Later he was awarded some of the highest decorations in Spain for his work. His project in Marbella was called “crazy” and “stupid” when he announced his plans, however, his vision proved absolutely on point, achieving incredible success in the 70s and worldwide acclaim for the design and architecture of Puerto Banús.

Panorama: pioneers in real estate
Panorama Properties was one of the first international agents to sell in Nueva Andalucía, and indeed in the early 70s, sold some 120 new properties built by Banús, including apartments, townhouses, and villas. Panorama still maintains a large variety of properties for sale in Nueva Andalucía and the adjoining area of the Marbella Golden Mile.
Christopher Clover, Managing Director of Panorama, remembers how ambitious Banús’s plans appeared at the time:
“People called him crazy... But he had really tremendous vision.”
Christopher Clover
His recollections offer a rare perspective on Nueva Andalucía before it became the established residential area it is today.

Key areas
Nueva Andalucía is divided into two basic areas:
- The eastern section, comprising the area of Las Brisas del Golf and other sectors of higher quality villas.
- The western section, which includes less expensive properties like the village of La Campana.
On the other side is San Pedro, an alternative more oriented to the urban center and the beach; This comparison between San Pedro de Alcántara and Nueva Andalucía helps to distinguish the lifestyle of both areas.

Each area is subdivided into several “Supermanzanas,” with different types of residential developments.

The “Golf Valley” and surrounding developments
To the east of Nueva Andalucía lies Aloha Golf, with yet another excellent golf course, golf club and restaurant, a development of the subsidiary of the Banco de Bilbao, Inmobiliaria Bilbao – whose land was acquired at the end of the 60’s when Banús had problems paying his bank loans for his infrastructure development and the bank stepped in to take the land from him.
To the west is the La Quinta Golf, featuring three 9-hole courses and a 5-star hotel with every imaginable service, and a high quality development of villas and townhouses surrounding the hotel, all . This area, often called the “Golf Valley,” is surrounded by luxury villas and townhouses.

Is Nueva Andalucía the same as Puerto Banús?
No. Puerto Banús is the marina, shopping and entertainment district on the coast, while Nueva Andalucía is the large residential area immediately behind it.
Its proximity allows residents to enjoy a quieter residential environment while remaining only a few minutes from the restaurants, shops, beaches and nightlife of Puerto Banús.
Why is Nueva Andalucía known as the Golf Valley?
Nueva Andalucía is commonly known as the Golf Valley because several prestigious golf courses are concentrated in and around the area, including Aloha Golf Club, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, Los Naranjos Golf Club and La Quinta Golf & Country Club.
How far is Nueva Andalucía from Puerto Banús and Marbella?
From many parts of Nueva Andalucía, Puerto Banús can be reached in approximately 3–5 minutes by car.

Can you live in Nueva Andalucía without a car?
It depends on where you live.
Communities close to Puerto Banús, Centro Plaza and the main commercial areas offer greater walkability. Is Nueva Andalucía a good place for families?
Yes. Nueva Andalucía is particularly attractive to families looking for residential surroundings, outdoor space, sports facilities and access to international education.
Aloha College is located within Nueva Andalucía, while several other international schools are within easy reach in Marbella and San Pedro de Alcántara.
Which are the best areas of Nueva Andalucía to buy property?
There is no single best neighbourhood for every buyer.
La Cerquilla and selected parts of Las Brisas and Los Naranjos are particularly attractive to buyers looking for luxury villas and proximity to golf.
Aloha offers a well-established residential environment, while La Alzambra, Señorío de Aloha and other communities provide alternatives for apartments and townhouses.
The right location depends on budget, privacy, access to schools, proximity to golf and whether being able to walk to shops and restaurants is important.
